About the Album
The band’s ninth album was released in 2002 under the record label Kvadradisk. To promote the album, director Mikhail Segal filmed a music video for the song “Our Young, Funny Voices”, in which the band members are buried alive. Beyond its deep and symbolic meaning in both the lyrics and visuals, the video is also tied to a tragic story: the day after filming, several members of the video crew traveled with Sergey Bodrov Jr. to the Karmadon Gorge, where they tragically died in the Kolka Glacier collapse. This deeply affected Maxim Pokrovsky, who reflected on where the moral line lies for an artist in their work. The video has since become iconic—a kind of anthem for young, talented lives lost—resonating with audiences perhaps even more strongly than “Haru Mamburu.” Later, Segal also directed a video for the song “From Alma-Ata”. To complete the album’s promotion, the track “Lullaby Song” became a major radio single on Nashe Radio.
Review
The new album by the band is titled “In the Dark.” From the very first track to the final note, it impresses with its remarkable cohesion and, one might say, a true sense of unity in sound. There’s a wealth of fresh ideas and bold experiments throughout, yet every track feels like part of the same current, flowing seamlessly together.
